Information about the museums

The Raahe Museum comprises seven different museums, four of which are near the centre of Raahe. The Saloinen and Ojala Museums and the Olkijoki Treaty Museum are located some 5–10 kilometres from the centre. The following provides short overviews about the museums; you can find more detailed information on museums’ own pages.

Raahe Museum

The Packhouse, founded in 1862, is the oldest non-university museum in Finland. The museum showcases, for instance,objects related to the Age of Sail in Raahe and a remarkable collection of church sculptures from the 17th century. For more information, see Packhouse.

Sovelius House

The Sovelius House is the oldest surviving residential building in Raahe, dating back to the 1780s. Upstairs in the museum, there is a restored home of a wealthy shipowner from the 19th century. The Sovelius House is located in the immediate proximity of the Raahe Museum. The museum office and premises for changing exhibitions are in the downstairs of the Sovelius House. Old PharmacyThe Old Pharmacy exhibits one of the most valuable collections of pharmaceutical objects in Finland. The Old Pharmacy’s collections include hundreds of apothecary jars as well as equipment and ingredients used in the preparation of medicines, showcased in an authentic environment in a building that used to be a pharmacy. The Old Pharmacy is located within a short walking distance from the Raahe Museum. For more information, see Old Pharmacy.
Crown GranaryThe Crown Granary is the newest museum within the scope of the Raahe Museum, to be opened to the public on 21 October 2012. In the Crown Granary, you can learn more about Raahe’s history, from prehistory to the present day. The building dates back to 1852 and is located approximately 1 kilometre from the Raahe Museum. Saloinen MuseumThe Saloinen Museum is an extensive complex consisting of 18 different buildings, recounting details about old sources of livelihood in the Saloinen region, i.e. fishing and farming. The museum is located in Arkkukari, approximately 10 kilometres from the centre of Raahe. For more information, see Saloinen Museum.
Ojala MuseumThe Ojala Museum consists of two old residential buildings and a cowhouse. The main building was built in the late 19th century. The exhibits are mainly farmhouse objects from the early 20th century, complemented by an interesting collection of coffee cups. The Ojala Museum is located near the centre of Pattijoki. Olkijoki Treaty Museum

The treaty that ended the battles of the Finnish War was signed in the Olkijoki Treaty Museum. An armistice agreement between Sweden and Russia was signed in this building on 19 November 1808. The Olkijoki Treaty Museum is located in Pattijoki. For more information, see Olkijoki Treaty Museum
