Accessibility

The Raahe Museum aims to make its museums as accessible as possible for all visitors, but unfortunately old museum buildings have certain characteristics that restrict accessibility. The following list provides details about accessibility in each museum as well as available assistive technology.

Packhouse

  • The museum can be accessed by a ramp.
  • You can borrow assistive technology from the museum shop: glasses, a torch or a magnifying glass.
  • Free admission for guides and interpreters.
  • Guide-, hearing- and other assistance dogs are welcome to the museum. A water bowl may be borrowed for assistance dogs.
  • If you need to rest for a bit, there are chairs available in the museum.
  • Packhouse museum has some accessibility challenges: the stairs leading to the upstairs of the museum are fairly steep and there are high thresholds downstairs, as often is the case in old buildings. To reach the museum premises downstairs, you have to descend two steps.

Crown Granary

  • Accessible parking, a ramp by the entrance.
  • All premises are accessible.
  • You can borrow assistive technology from the information desk: glasses, magnifying glasses, torches.
  • Free admission for guides and interpreters.
  • Guide-, hearing- and other assistance dogs are welcome to the museum. A water bowl may be borrowed for assistance dogs.
  • If you need to rest for a bit, there are chairs available in the museum.
  • Accessible toilets.
  • Accessible lift.
  • In the downstairs lobby of the museum, there is a coat rack and lockers.
  • An Internet access point is available for visitors’ use in the downstairs of the Crown Granary. The access point is equipped with screen reader and magnifier software.

The Sovelius House

  • There are parking spaces in the inner court of the Sovelius House.
  • You can borrow assistive technology from the museum office: glasses, a magnifying glass or a torch.
  • If you need to rest for a bit, there is one chair in the hall of the Shipowner’s Home.
  • NB. The Shipowner’s Home is located upstairs in the Sovelius House and can only be reached by steep stairs.

Old Pharmacy

  • If you need to rest for a bit, there are chairs available in the Old Pharmacy.
  • NB. To reach the museum premises, you have to ascend few steps.

Saloinen Museum

  • Guide-, hearing- and other assistance dogs are welcome to the museum. A water bowl may be borrowed for assistance dogs.
  • NB. In the area of the Saloinen Museum, there are 18 old buildings that have some accessibility challenges, due to either stairs without ramps or narrow doorways.

 

Ojala Museum

  • Guide-, hearing- and other assistance dogs are welcome to the museum. A water bowl may be borrowed for assistance dogs.
  • NB. There are a couple of steps leading to the museum building without ramp access for wheelchairs, prams or buggies. The granary, the cowhouse and other buildings also have thresholds.

Olkijoki Treaty Museum

  • Guide-, hearing- and other assistance dogs are welcome to the museum.
